Art: Constructed Histories

Cheryl Fudge is a multidisciplinary artist based on Nantucket whose work explores cultural memory, material inheritance, and the politics of reclamation. Working with salvaged imagery, vintage fragments, and deconstructed narratives, she creates layered compositions that operate as both visual records and acts of quiet resistance.

Her pieces often begin with what has been discarded: forgotten paintings, ephemeral prints, and overlooked artifacts. These fragments are reworked and recontextualized—cut, collaged, reassembled—into new forms that question authorship, permanence, and historical omission. On the reverse of some works, she includes a photograph of the original piece—inviting the viewer into an open-ended search for the unknown artist who inadvertently contributed to the final composition. In this way, Fudge creates a space where collaboration, chance, and erasure co-exist.

Her practice is defined by an ethic of transformation: what once served a functional or decorative role is elevated into something contemplative and quietly political. Her compositions are both tender and confrontational, asking the viewer to consider what we save, what we forget, and what we choose to see.

At its core, Fudge’s work resists the disposable. It recovers meaning from the margins and reclaims beauty from loss—offering a visual language shaped by resilience, curiosity, and care.

Wearable Art

In 2001, Cheryl Fudge opened her first experiential design studio on Nantucket—one of the earliest spaces in the U.S. where visitors could upcycle their own clothing from recycled materials. She later opened a flagship studio in Santa Monica, which operated for eight years, serving as a creative hub for sustainable fashion, self-expression, and community engagement. Her pop-ups at Fred Segal Santa Monica and Malibu Country Mart helped define a new era of participatory, conscious design.

Each garment in this collection is made entirely from recycled textiles—vintage Nantucket sweatshirts, T-shirts, denim, and salvaged materials—stitched into one-of-a-kind designs. Cheryl Fudge’s wearable art is sustainably made, thoughtfully designed, and created with intention. These are the pieces you’ll reach for again and again—comfortable, expressive, and elevated. They turn everyday wear into something unforgettable.
